explain what personal data about you is collected when you visit our website www.forschungskompass.eu and how this data is used by us.

General information on data processing

When you use this website your personal data may be processed. Under data protection law the term, "personal data" designates all the information, which refers to an identified or identifiable person. The IP address may also be an item of personal data. An IP address allocates the individual with the device connected to the Internet by the Internet provider, so that it is able to send and receive data. When you use the website we collect data, which you yourself provide. During your visit to the website we also automatically collect information about your use of the website. Registration for use of our services is not required.

We process personal data in accordance with the relevant data protection provisions, in particular the GDPR and the FGPA. Unless otherwise stated in the following notes, we store the data only as long as necessary to achieve the purpose of the processing or to satisfy our contractual or legal duties.

Data storage and security measures

Our website is hosted on an internal server of SLUB. A service provider for maintenance and support is not used.

The personal information you provide for the web shop is transferred in SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encrypted format over the Internet. This applies in particular to the feedback possibilities. However, we would like to point out that the transmission of data over the Internet (e.g. by communication per e-mail) could have security gaps. A seamless protection of data against access by third parties is not possible.

It is possible to send us direct feedback via our website. No personal data is required for this purpose. Insofar as you enter your feedback in the free text field, we will use it exclusively for the purpose you specify. Processing will therefore be dependent on the purpose in accordance with Art. 6 Para. 1 b or f DSGVO.

It will not be passed on to third parties unless this is necessary due to the nature of your request. The data will be deleted after your request has been implemented (i.e. after final clarification) or due to an objection by you, insofar as there are no legal retention periods to prevent deletion.

Processing of server log files

When you use our website for purely information purposes in the first instance general information is automatically stored (in other words, if you have not registered) and this information is transferred to our server. As a standard feature this information includes: browser type and version, operating system used, site accessed, the site previously accessed (referrer URL), IP address, date and time of the server request and HTTP status code. The data are processed to safeguard our legitimate interest and the processing relies on the legal base in Article 6 (1) 1st sentence point (f) GDPR. This processing serves the technical management and security of the website.

The temporary storage of the IP address by the system is necessary to enable the delivery of the website to your computer. For this purpose, the IP address must remain stored for the duration of the session. Log files are stored to ensure the functionality of the website and the security of our information technology systems. A combination of this data with other data of the user does not take place. The data stored are erased at the end of thirty days, unless specific evidence gives rise to legitimate suspicion of an unlawful use and further investigation and processing of the information is necessary on this ground.

Our website uses cookies. Cookies are small text files, which are stored by your browser, whenever you visit a website. This allows us to recognise your browser when you visit our website on subsequent occasions. Cookies do not retrieve information stored on your hard drive and do not interfere with your PC or files. Cookies do not contain viruses, Trojan horses or other malicious applications.

To do this we use in particular permanent cookies. Permanent cookies are automatically erased after a specified time, which may vary from cookie to cookie.

Insofar as these coolies are used to process personal data, this relies on the legal basis in Article 6 (1) 1st sentence point (f) GDPR. This processing serves our legitimate interests in making our website more user-friendly, more effective and more secure.

You can erase cookies at any time by adjusting the security settings of your browser. Most browsers are initially set up to accept Cookies, but you can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. You can, however, deactivate the storage of cookies or adjust your browser to indicate you any saving of cookies. You can erase cookies either manually or automatically at any time by adjusting the security settings of your browser. As a result, however, some functions on our website may not be used fully. The German Federal Office for Information Security offers further information on this on https://www.bsi-fuer-buerger.de/BSIFB/DE/Empfehlungen/EinrichtungSoftware/EinrichtungBrowser/Sicherheitsmassnahmen/Cookies/cookies_node.html.

Analyses of our website

On our website we use the services of the Matomo 2.17 web analysis service (formerly Piwik). Matomo (www.matomo.org, InnoCraft Ltd., 150 Willis St, 6011 Wellington, New Zealand) is a type of open source software for website optimisation, which uses an anonymous method to analyse access by visitors to our website (see above under "Cookies"). This includes information on the search engines, search terms, and the languages used, the origin of visitors by country, the browsers used and their plug-ins, the referrers, the length of stay, entry and exit pages, dropout rates, and IP addresses. The cookies are retained for the duration of the browser session. For this period you can be recognized by the website after visiting it. The IP address is anonymized immediately after it has been processed and before any storage. Therefore, further processing of personal data does not take place when Matomo is used. The information generated by the cookies about your use of this offer will not be used for personal evaluation or profiling. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this website will be stored on the server of the provider of this website in Germany (not by Matomo). A passing on to third parties does not take place.

The data are processed in order to safeguard our legitimate interests and the processing relies on the legal basis in Article 6 (1) 1st sentence point (f) GDPR. The processing is performed in the interest of optimising our site and in so doing to waive as far as possible the processing of personal data.

You can prevent the installation of cookies through a certain configuration of your browser at any time (see "Cookies"). In addition, you can deactivate the storage and use of cookies at any time by clicking in the following white square. In this case, a so-called opt-out cookie is stored in your browser, which means that Matomo does not collect any session data. Please note that the complete deletion of your cookies in your browser means that the opt-out cookie is also deleted and may have to be reactivated by you.
